Hello everyone, our names are Marta and Lucía; and we are students of IES Cánovas del Castillo.
In this blog, we will explain and teach you how a restaurant is in Spain and some sentences that will be very helpful.


Hola a todos/as nuestros nombres son Marta y Lucía; y somos alumnas de IES Cánovas del Castillo. 

En este blog, os vamos a explicar y enseñar como es un restaurante en España y algunas frases que os serán de mucha ayuda.

Beverages

English:

Here in Spain, when you ask for water they usually bring you a bottle of mineral water, so you have to pay for it. 

You can ask for tap water, this is free, but it is not normal. 

Soft drinks are also served in individual bottles and paid every time one is ordered, they do not refill the glass for free. 

Ex: Good afternoon, could you bring me a bottle of water, please? 

Español:

Aquí en España, cuando pides agua te suelen traer una botella de agua mineral, así que hay que pagarla. 

Se puede pedir agua del grifo, esta sí que es gratis, pero no suele ser lo normal.

Los refrescos también se sirven en botellas individuales y se paga cada vez que se pide uno, no rellenan el vaso gratis.

Ej: Buenas tardes, ¿podría traerme una botella de agua, por favor?

Restaurant Menu

Restaurant menu

English:

A restaurant menu is usually divided into 3 parts; appetizers, main dishes and desserts. 

The main part is usually subdivided into more parts, such as salads, meats, fish, pasta, pizzas, etc. 

Español:

Una carta de restaurante suele dividirse en 3 partes; entrantes, platos principales y postres.

La parte de los principales, suele subdividirse en más partes como por ejemplo; ensaladas, carnes, pescados, pastas, pizzas, etc.

Could you tell me where the bathroom is, please? 

Right - Left. 

Español:

¿Podría decirme/indicarme dónde está el servicio/baño, por favor?

Derecha - Izquierda.

Indications

Indications to the waiter

 English:

• I’m allergic to nuts 

• I'm allergic to peanuts 

• I'm celiac I have celiac disease 

• I’m vegetarian / vegan 

• I don't eat meat / fish / any products that come from animals 

• Could you bring me more bread, please? 

• Could I have french fries instead of salad, please? 

To get the attention of the waiter and to attend you, you usually raise your arm and signal to the waiter saying: "Excuse me". 

When we want to ask for something, we usually say: Could you bring me ... ?, I would like to drink... 

Español:

•    Soy alérgico a las nueces. 
•    Soy celíaco. 
•    Soy vegetariano/vegano.
•    No como carne/pescado/ningún producto que provenga de animales. 
•    ¿Podría traerme más pan, por favor? 
•    ¿Podría ponerme patatas fritas en lugar de ensalada, por favor?

Para llamar la atención de un camarero y que te atienda se suele levantar el brazo y dirigirnos hacia el camarero diciendo: “perdone” o “disculpe”.

Cuando queremos pedir algo, solemos decir: 

¿Podría traerme…?, me gustaría tomar…

The bill and tips

The bill and tips 

English:
How to ask for the bill: Could you bring me the bill please?

Unlike in the United States, in Spain it is not mandatory to leave a tip. 
It is usually done if you liked the food and service that the waiters have given.
If you go to the restaurant as a big group with reservation,  it is not necessary to leave tips.

Español:

Cómo pedir la cuenta: ¿Me puede traer la cuenta por favor?

A diferencia que en Estados Unidos, en España no es obligatorio dejar propina; se suele hacer si te ha gustado la comida y el servicio que han dado los camareros.
Si vais al restaurante en grupo con reserva, no es necesario dejar propina.
